Your vote counts –
in Munich too!

Europaflagge

The same rules apply to all German and non-German EU citizens:

  • You are at least 18 years old

  • You have been living in Munich as your main residence for at least 2 months

And you are not alone: more than one in six eligible voters in Munich are non-German EU citizens. Together, we can create an open, European Munich! 💪🌍

Your square metre of democracy – how the election works

In Munich, co-determination is a big deal – literally! The ballot paper for the city council is almost one square metre in size because you have so many options for casting your vote.

  • No 5% threshold: every vote counts – even smaller parties can move into the town hall.

  • Your election documents will arrive by post, so you can conveniently vote by mail or in person on 8 March.

  • You have one vote for the mayor.

  • For the city council, you have 80 votes, which you can either

    • give to one party in full or

    • distribute among different candidates.

This diversity shows that Munich takes democracy seriously – and you are part of it! 💜

Our Election Programme

What should Munich look like in ten, twenty or fifty years? This question guides our policies. In this programme, we show how we are tackling the city's major challenges in concrete terms – from housing and mobility to education, the economy and culture.

This is not just about visions, but about feasible solutions: we identify challenges, formulate clear goals – and advocate concrete measures to make our city more equitable, sustainable and European. We also consider financing from the outset and make concrete proposals.
